Collision domain: Miền xung đột được định nghĩa là các đoạn mạng Ethernet hay Fast Ethernet nằm giữa một cặp Bridge hay các thiết bị lớp 2 khác. Vì lý do đó toàn bộ lưu lượng chia sẻ chung đường tuyền kết nối đến thiết bị lớp 2. Trong miền xung đột một thiết bị gửi tín hiệu đến Hub (bộ tập trung) thì tất cả các thiết bị khác đều nhận được. Các Hub mở rộng Collision domain , trong khi đó các Bridge và Switch tạo ra các Collision domain.
Broadcast domain: Gọi là miền quảng bá, nó là một vùng trong đó thông tin được gửi tới tất cả các thiết bị được kết nối. Thiết bị giới hạn miền quảng bá là các Router. Và cũng chính Router tạo ra các miền quảng bá. Như vậy mỗi một giao diện của Router là một Broadcast domain. Một Broadcast domain có thể gồm nhiều Collision domain .
Ví dụ Ethernet LAN (Local Area Network) là các miền quảng bá, mọi thiết bị kết nối vào mạng LAN đều có thể gửi thông tin tới các thiết bị khác trong mạng. Ngoài ra các thiết bị như Repeater, Hub chúng mở rộng mạng LAN tức là mở rộng miền quảng bá. Các thiết bị như Bridge, Switch làm nhiệm vụ kết nối các LAN với nhau nên chỉ mở rộng miền quảng bá chứ không ngăn được các bản tin phát quảng bá. Để ngăn chặn người ta dùng router bạn ạ

A group of Ethernet or Fast Ethernet devices in a CSMA/CD LAN that are connected by repeaters and compete for access on the network. Only one device in the collision domain may transmit at any one time, and the other devices in the domain listen to the network in order to avoid data collisions.

A collision domain is a logical area in a computer network where data frames can "collide" with one another, in particular in the Ethernet networking protocol. The more collisions in a network the less efficient it is.
Broadcast Domain:
